Electrical Testing

Transformer stability and reliability are fundamental to your power delivery systems. The older a transformer gets, the higher the probability that a failure will occur. Electrical testing, along with fluid testing, can disclose potential or imminent problems.

DYMAX is equipped with the instrumentation and expertise to perform any electrical analysis of your transformer's condition. Choose this maintenance testing guide for the recommended frequency of transformer maintenance tests. Select this NETA maintenance frequency matrix for a guide to its use.

An insulation power factor test obtains values of transformer insulation and can determine a baseline for future tests to determine the degree of insulation deterioration. This test also can verify the lack of moisture and conclude the transformer insulation's figure of merit, which is a measure of the ratio of the power dissipated in the insulation to the effective volt-amperes applied during the test. Trends are determined to guarantee that the power factor of the individual windings to ground and between windings will not exceed 1.0%.

Transformer turns ratio testing (TTR) is primarily used as an acceptance test. It is also useful for troubleshooting or as part of a preventive maintenance program. The TTR test can detect a short circuit in the windings.

Winding-to-ground and winding-to-winding resistance tests occasionally point out a weakness which can be further used to find an insulation breakdown or problem area.

Acceptance Testing

Acceptance testing verifies that all electrical functions of your transformer and related electrical equipment conform to necessary specifications and assure that they will operate properly. For more information on acceptance testing , click the link.

Fluid Analytical Services

DYMAX and transformer manufacturers recommend regular testing of transformer fluids to provide reference points for comparison. This makes it possible to develop a historical trend in the fluid condition. For more information on fluid analytical services , click the link.
